Cristina Leite

Cristina Leite completed a postgraduate course in Legal-Administrative Sciences at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon in 1998 and graduated in Law in 1997 from the same university. She has also attended various specialisation courses: training on the Recovery and Insolvency Code by the Ministry of Justice and Labour/BM, Ilha do Sal (2018); Intensive training in Tax Litigation by Debates & Discursos, Lisbon (2017); "Changes in the Taxation of Corporate and Individual Income - New Corporate (CIRPC) and Individual (CIRPS) Income Tax Codes" - OPACC, Cidade da Praia (2015); Advanced Studies Course in Law and Legislation Science - National Assembly of the Republic of Cabo Verde (2015); and Tax Law Course II by the Law and Justice Foundation, Cabo Verde (2006). Since July 2006, she has been a partner at MLA - menezes, leite & associados, Sociedade de Advogados, RL. From 1997 to 2000, she was a trainee lawyer under the supervision of Professor Sérvulo Correia, after which she worked at SÉRVULO until 2001. In 2002, she was a senior technician in the Studies and Legislation Office of the Ministry of Justice and Internal Administration and Director of the Patrimonial and Administration Legal Service of the General Directorate of State Patrimony, Ministry of Finance and Planning. She was legal adviser to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Social Security Institute from 2003 to 2004, and from 2004 to 2005, Director of the Technical Advisory Office of the same institute, where she was also a lawyer from 2005 to 2006.
Relevant experience:
- Participation in a committee overseeing the process of drawing up the legislative package: Land Use Law, Expropriation Law and Regulation of the Basic Law on Spatial and Urban Planning, from February 2002 to January 2003, financed by the World Bank, involving the Ministries of Justice and Internal Administration, Infrastructure and Transport and State Reform, Public Administration and Local Government, Agriculture and Fisheries and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of State to the Prime Minister.
- Member of the Committee for the Review and Finalisation of the Preliminary Draft of the Guardianship of Minors Law - 2006.
- Member of the Superior Council of the Cabo Verde Bar Association for the 2006/2009 and 2009/2012 terms and Vice-Chairman of the Discipline and Deontology Council for the 2012/2015 term.
- Member of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) - May 2015.
