Sérvulo launches Intellectual Property Clinic

NEWS AND EVENTS 16 Feb 2015

The Intellectual Property Clinic, recently created by SÉRVULO, is aimed especially at advising IT companies and startups, on all matters related to the legal protection of assets, be they products, services or technology.

The coordinator of the Clinic, Patrícia Akester, has a broad knowledge of the subject and believes that it is necessary to protect the intellectual production of a company throughout its existence, noting especially that it is of prime importance to ensure that a solid legal base is formed during the so-called incubation period of a company, so as to attract venture capital or to be ready to be party to potential mergers and acquisitions.

Among the key services covered by the Clinic it is worth highlighting not only the support given in terms of defining a business strategy to follow, with regards to intellectual property, but also all other underlying steps, such as identifying adequate forms of protection for products and services concerned, be this on a national or an international level, registration, carrying out of due diligences and the evaluation of the intellectual property assets of companies, licensing of assets and the use of courts or arbitration in case of breach of rights.

Paulo Câmara, SÉRVULO Managing Partner, is enthusiastic about the project, and, according to him, one of the Clinic’s distinguishing features is its variable fee model, adapted to fit the level of maturity of each business. This characteristic allows for the adequate protection of the intellectual property assets of companies, even small ones, thereby overcoming the issue of lack of resources that many startups face when they struggle daily to gain their footing in the market.
