In response to news items communicated by some media bodies, according to which Rui Medeiros, constitutionalist at the Law Faculty of the Universidade Católica in Lisbon and partner at Sérvulo & Associados, is part of the PSD commission responsible for the elaboration of the prelimimary constitutional revision, SÉRVULO would like to clarify the following:
i) Rui Medeiros was invited to be part of the PSD commission which is elaborating a preliminary constitutional revision, by the commission president, Dr. Paulo Teixeira Pinto. However, Mr. Medeiros unequivocally expressed his availability, solely and exclusively and within the scope of his technical competencies, to be consulted as an expert on juridical-constitutional issues that may require, according to the commission’s understanding, analysis by independent and external experts, and so he did not make himself available to be part of the commission.
ii) Rui Medeiros, therefore, is not part of the PSD commission responsible for the elaboration of the preliminary constitutional revision, having always been a constitutionalist independent of any political party.
