NEWS AND EVENTS 08 Nov 2012

Professor Sérvulo Correia was recently sworn in as ad hoc judge for the case  M/V «Virginia G» (Panama v. Guinea-Bissau) at the ITLOS - International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

The ITLOS is a court of the United Nations based in Hamburg and established in 1996. States involved in disputes and which do not have a judge of their own nationality have the right to appoint an ad hoc judge. It was in this context that Professor Sérvulo Correia was nominated by Guinea-Bissau, while Panama nominated the Italian judge and professor Tullio Treves.

The public hearing aimed at determining the admissibility of a counterclaim brought by Guinea-Bissau.
