NEWS AND EVENTS 12 Dec 2011

SÉRVULO partner Paulo Câmara launched the second edition of his Securities Law Manual, published by leading Portuguese legal publisher Almedina.

This edition reviews the previous version of the manual, which was published in 2009, and it completely updates the text in light of legislative developments that have occurred since then. The book now includes new chapters, namely on the European System of Financial Supervision, non par value shares, the transposition of the directive on the rights of shareholders, securities and real estate investment companies, the suspension of anti-takeover defences, new developments in the fields of rating and public debt, and on a number of legislative measures and proposals adopted in response to the financial crisis. The book now has a total of 896 pages dealing with all the legal issues pertaining to the capital markets.

On the occaion of this publication Paulo Câmara comments that “it is especially fitting, in the times we are living, to rethink, in an updated way, about securities law overall, given the high number of new laws that have arisen, especially in reaction to the financial crisis. These regulatory developments rightfully raise high expectations, and this has led to an increased interest in these matters on the part of lawyers, students, sector professionals and others. This is a sure sign of the central role that securities law plays in our times.”
