Governance Lab launches new publication on corporate governance

NEWS AND EVENTS 08 May 2012

On May 15, at the auditorium 3 of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Governance Lab launches its latest publication: the Annotated Corporate Governance Code.

The speakers participating in this event are Alexandre Soares dos Santos (Jerónimo Martins), Miguel Athayde Marques (Lisbon Catholic School of Business and Economics) and Pedro Maia (Faculty of Law, University of Coimbra), who will all be debating the theme “Relevance and current perspectives of codes of good governance”. Entry to the session is free.

The book being launched, which integrates the Governance Lab collection, edited by Almedina, introduces the theme of governance codes in listed companies and annotates each of the recommendations contained in the Code of Corporate Governance (the version in force) approved by the Portuguese Securities Commission.

Thus, the work intervenes in the European and national debate going on about the content, the auditing and the function of these guiding instruments of corporate governance practices. It should be remembered that, on one hand the European Commission submitted to public debate the issue of comply or explain and, on the other hand, in Portugal the Institute of Corporate Governance is preparing to release a preliminary draft of the  Corporate Governance Code.

The Annotated Corporate Governance Code is the fourth publication produced by Governance Lab, preceded by the Companies Code and Corporate Governance (2008), Conflict of Interest in Corporate and Finance Law: an overview since the financial crisis (2010) and Organizational Governance: the expansive vocation of Corporate Governance (2011), all published by Almedina.

Governance Lab is a group dedicated to legal research and critical reflection on issues related to organizational governance, whether of private or public entities, seeking in this way to contribute actively to the advancement of the practices, recommendations and legal rules of this field. It is currently composed of 36 members, of different backgrounds, making it possible to reconcile practical experience and academic analysis. SÉRVULO is represented by Paulo Câmara, Rui Cardona Ferreira, Ana Filipa Morais Antunes and Vasco Freitas da Costa.

Governance Lab is an independent and non-profit project, all its revenue going to charities.

The initiatives and reflections of the authors of Governance Lab are also published in the blog http://governancelab.org/.
