Enough is Enough
SÉRVULO IN THE PRESS 15 Apr 2019 in Dia 15
Inês Palma Ramalho, a lawyer in SÉRVULO’s Finance and Governance department, has written an opinion article about domestic violence for Dia 15 newspaper. “We are barely in mid-April and we already have the sad number of 14 women murdered through domestic violence. (…) These women died at the hands of their former partners or partners, the very people they once trusted the most,” said the lawyer.
According to numbers from the Portuguese Victim Support Association, over 86% of the 6,928 victims of domestic violence were women and most of them were adults (69%). Their average age is 43 years. Furthermore, in more than 60% of cases, the aggressor was the husband or the current or former partner. “In all cases, society has failed these women,” she added.
